Bikenjutsu

Bi [Secret] Ken [Sword] Jutsu [Art]

Overview

The foundation of a good martial artist is Taijutsu, Biken-jutsu and Bo-jutsu. One must first learn Taijutsu properly before being able to train in sword.

Genbukan sword training is not ken-jutsu, Kendo or sport competition. Grandmaster Shoto Tanemura's Biken-jutsu means "secret sword art" where an attacker is stopped by his own force and is not able to see or recognize what stopped him.

Biken-jutsu training is comprised of using bokken (wooden sword) or iaito (un-sharpened real sword) for bowing, stances, drawing, cutting, thrusting, blocking, rolling, locking, sparring, breath control, holding a sword, etc. The techniques come from various schools such as the following:

  • Kukishinden Happo Biken-jutsu
  • Tenshin Hyoho Kukishinden
  • Togakure Ryu
  • Mugen Shinto Ryu Iaijutsu
  • Genbukan Iai (Iaido)

Related arts are Tanto-jutsu (knife/dagger), Kodachi-jutsu (short sword/Shoto/Wakizashi), and Ninja To-Jutsu(Ninja sword techniques).
